Blogging for Income – How to Make Dough on the Internet Writing About What You Enjoy
Just about everyone and their sister is getting on the Internet to set up their own blogs. These blogs can be about a practially infinite range of subjects – from fishing to fast food, from religion to baking, and everything in between. Yes the Internet has truly made it possible for anyone to share their thoughts with the entire world.
Although blogging is a lot fun (and somewhat cathartic in many cases), those in the know are making blogs to actually make a healthy income from home. Using nothing but a computer, an Internet connection, and a bit of hard work, these folks are blogging for dollars. Just how are they managing to do this while thousands upon thousands of bloggers out there are not making anything?
As a general overview, making bank from blogging requires three key ingreidents:
Creating Content
Every blog requires some sort of content. Without any good content, visitors just won’t stay on your blog to see what is being offered. On the Internet, content is the king. To start, brainstorm what you would like to be blogging about. Can’t get enough rap music? Start a blog that discusses your favorite artists and their latest album releases. As you can probably tell, blogs can be about anything under the sun, and if you start one about a subject you enjoy, chances are you will enjoy the journey all the more!
While writing your content, don’t worry too much about perfect grammar. It’s generally best not to use too much formal language and insteadgo for a more conversational style. Not only is this easier for the visitor to read and comprehend, but it will also infuse your blog with a bit of your own personality. Just write as if you were speaking to a good friend across the dinner table. Even if you don’t see yourself a writer, you’ll discover that the words flow quite easily using this technique.
When it comes to blogging tools, Google’s Blogger or the venerable WordPress are good options.
Traffic
The second part of the blogging formula is traffic – getting visitors to find and read the amazing content you’ve written in part one. There are basically two ways to get traffic to your blog, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Let’s look at both of these methods in turn:
Paid Traffic
This is generally done through advertising, such as banner advertising or pay-per-click. If you’ve got more money than time, this is an excellent way to generate traffic to your blog in a really short period of time. You can set yourself up with a Google Adwords account and begin bidding on keywords that relate to your blog’s topic. To help you come up with keywords, you can use Google’s popular free keyword tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal). To begin, try to look for keywords that are “long tail” – keywords that are being searched for, but don’t have a lot of competing advertisers. These are in most cases 3-5 word phrases instead of phrases of one or two keywords. This will keep your cost per click low as you test the feasibility of your new blog. While paid advertising can offer traffic in a hurry, it is, of course, going to cost you some dough.
Free Traffic
The second way is to receive free traffic. This way is not going to really cost you anything dollar wise, but it takes more time and effort than a paid traffic method. If you’re short on dough, getting free traffic to your blog is an important skill.
From Visitors To Dollars
Once you’ve got traffic coming to check out your content, the last task is to monetize that traffic. The best way to do this is by becoming an affiliate for a pre-existing product. Websites such as Commission Junction, Linkshare, and Clickbank make it easy to introduce other people’s products and put money in your pocket every time you refer a sale. As soon as you sign up for an account, you will have access to a a truckload of products and services that you could be promoting on your blog.
